Dear Friends,
During this season of illumination from the Chanukah menorah, we mourn and pray for the kedoshim lost and those injured in Sydney, including our Chabad colleagues and their families. The connections that we form as Jewish people are what will sustain us in times such as these. We mourn and cry out as one people, one family. We are uniquely blessed to see and speak with hundreds of you each week. As the Jewish people we possess the tools that we need to help each other and bring an end to the pain that we are experiencing. Each of us is a light, a beacon of holiness, that can illuminate our surroundings. Like the small flames on each of our menorahs, we can help each other push away the darkness and move forward as proud Jews.
Chabad’s work in Silver Spring focuses on helping Jews build those connections to their heritage, Torah and mitzvot, and each other. In addition to the synagogue, preschool, and camp, Chabad connects with so many Jews in the Silver Spring area.
- An elderly neighbor who receives a warm challah and friendly smile on a Friday
- A patient at a local hospital who needs spiritual connection in the middle of the night
- A child who is unable to attend a Jewish school who receives personal tutoring
- A visitor who needs to borrow tefillin while traveling
- Young people who face antisemitism on campus and need a space to socialize with other Jewish youth
- A family dealing with a health challenge who receive a fresh cooked dinner on a busy night
These are just some of the connections that Chabad helps facilitate every week. So many rely on Chabad and are grateful to know that Chabad is always available for them and every other Jew.
But we cannot be available to all those who need a Jewish connection without your help. We must all combine our strength and flames to bring light to every Jew around us. Our collective kind words and mitzvot bring strength to the Jewish people. The mitzvah of tzedakah, charitable donations, underlies all of Chabad’s work. We rely on the support of every one of you, our deeply committed community, to provide services publicly and through individual relationships. Your donation to Chabad’s Year-End Campaign helps maintain the financial stability of the organization. Please join us as we close out the calendar year to help Chabad stay strong and available to everyone who needs us.
May you be blessed with light, warmth, and the strength that we all hold within ourselves.
With prayers for the ultimate Redemption.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Berel and Chaya Wolvovsky
